An acoustic rock musical at NY Fringe 2008

Theatre Review by Matthew Murray

“Director Maura Kelley's staging is charmingly informal, that of a guileless college-theatre lark. The characters, though hardly complex, are precisely drawn, and generally convincing as they struggle to find their proper directions (and, as they sing in the semi-title song, come into their prime) in an obstacle-strewn world. And the actors enact them in ways so affable, yet so affectless, that you can genuinely envision sharing beers and stories with any of them - no small achievement for people who spend so much time steeping in unrealized hope.”

Earth’s Vacation – NY International Fringe Festival 2007

“The ensemble works well together, big grins across their faces as they execute the endearingly cheesy choreography. They seem fully committed to the show and work well with the kids in the audience.”

Playwright/director Maura Kelley has created an amusing, instructive show. There are also a few lines thrown in for the older members of the audience, including a reference to creationism (thus why they can't be sure how old Earth is) and calling Pluto a "little person planet" rather than a "dwarf planet." “So thank you, Earth's Vacation, for helping me brush up on my astronomy and for instructing a new generation on how to save our planet.”

“There's a lot going on in this show. Many times all ten actors are on stage at once. I commend the director (Maura Kelley) for capably handling everyone in such a small space. The Earth scene, taking place in the back of a catering hall, is particularly impressive with various choreographed mishaps.

Barefoot in the Park

“If you haven't hitched your wagon to Festival 56 yet, you are missing out. This New York repertory theater company is offering our community some of the best theater it has ever seen. If you went to Chicago, St. Louis or New York, you would find no production better staged.

But Chris George as "Veeector" and Katherine Tremper as Mother just tore it up. Each put a flair into the character that was honest, real and fun.

”…Check the calendar. This is a must see.”

Dave Gillespie / July 11, 2005

“The ensuing situations result in numerous belly laughs from the audience, both young and old alike. Although much of the humor is physical (one of the funniest instances is an angry Paul chopping vegetables), a great deal of ironic dialogue contributes to the overall hilarity”.

Red Carpet may be the most enjoyable piece of the evening.”

“…During an impromptu lip-sync[Actually staged] in the limousine, the entire theatre filled with laughter. The humor dies down when Alli Loeffert steps out of the car and refuses to give up her values for Hollywood, despite the harsh realities.”
